Given the increasing societal need for mental health services, the gap in efficient research and training of skilled human resources in this field, and the established capabilities, including Razi Hospital as a reference facility in the northwest of the country along with its rich academic resources, the Center for Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Research was founded in 2007 by forming a research team. In 2012, this research center succeeded in obtaining preliminary approval and has continued its efforts since 2017 with final approval and an organizational chart. Since 2018, this center has executed significant activities and programs to fulfill its mission by expanding its physical space and human resources as well as establishing an animal laboratory.
Internationalization of psychiatric and behavioral science studies and conducting cross-cultural studies are also among the center's key objectives. To this end, the center has concentrated on developing international relations, attracting talent, and facilitating cross-border inter-organizational exchanges.
