Maz T T
This maze is one of the simplest and most practical mazes in the field of behavioral studies in laboratory animals, especially in mice, which is made in different dimensions and shapes. As the name implies, its shape design is similar to the English letter T, which is also made in the shape of a Y. The purpose of the T maze test is to examine the spatial memory associated with the hippocampus [84]. The T maze is made of Plexiglas or wood with a body and arms 35 cm long, 10 cm wide and 25 cm high (different dimensions are mentioned in various articles and sources). The target arms and the start are separated from the central area by a horizontal path and doors. The brightness inside the system is approximately 50Lux (medium light). In some of the protocols used by this maze, rewards such as food are used, while in other cases, there is no reward and the curiosity of mice is used to examine an arm that is already closed (in the training phase) and is new in the test phase May be. The arms are usually closed by valves that open manually, but there are newer models on the market that open electrically and will be better because they do not see the researcher mouse. The behavior of mice in this maze is recorded by a camera located above the maze. In some models, the camera is not used and instead, the electronic eye is placed in the inputs of the arms and records the entry and exit of the animal and transmits it to the computer next to the device. Sometimes none of the above exists and the researcher stands a few meters away from the device and records the animal's behavior directly or through a mirror installed on top of the device.
way of doing
Learning stage: In this stage, the cage of mice, after being brought to the laboratory environment, is placed for a quarter of an hour in a corner of the laboratory to get used to the laboratory environment. It is then removed from the cage and the animal is gently placed in the starting arm. The valve of this arm is open, while the valve of one of the target arms is closed, the animal is guided twice towards the open arm. There is a 30 second interval between the animal being pushed into the open arm area twice. The animal is then returned to its cage.
Test phase: 24 hours (or any interval when the researcher intends) is done after the learning phase. At this stage, the animal first stays at the starting point for 30 seconds through a valve in the starting arm and then the door opens and the animal is allowed to enter freely into each of the arms. The correct choice is for the animal to enter an arm that was closed the day before (new arm) and the animal could not enter it (alternative behavior). The animal stays in the entered arm for 30 seconds and returns to the starting point and stays for 30 seconds to make its second free choice.
